CRIC & Consilium Event: The impact of peacebuilding and local knowledge on sustainable peace w. Linda Bishai and David Chandler

How can peacebuilding from below contribute to sustainable peace? What is the assigned role of local knowledge in international peacebuilding efforts?

Two reputable international experts are in Copenhagen and will join Consilium for a seminar and debate on what impact peacebuilding and local knowledge provide for sustainable peace. Consilium is pleased to announce our speakers Linda Bishai, United States Institute for Peace (USIP) and David Chandler, Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Westminster.

We are looking forward to this excellent opportunity to discuss with two experts actively engaged in the field.

The UN has increased focus on local knowledge; we continuously hear from Danish politicians that a Danish effort has to be directed to the local areas (nærområderne); and in the literature on peacebuilding notions such as ‘the local turn’, ‘hybrid peace’, ‘post-liberal peace’ keep appearing. This seminar aims to provide a better understanding of what peacebuilding and local knowledge can contribute with in striving for sustainable peace, how this is applied in international efforts, and what happens in practice.
