A Guide to Israel’s Occupation of the West Bank

Distinguished professor and outstanding scholar on the Israel-Palestine conflict, Zionism, and colonial studies, Gershon Shafir will present a thoughtful examination of Israel’s policies and strategies in the West Bank under the title: A Guide to Israel’s Occupation of the West Bank.

Gershon Shafir is Professor at the Department of Sociology at the University of California, San Diego, past Director of the Institute for International, Comparative, and Area Studies (IICAS), and the founding Director of the Human Rights Minor; both at the University of California, San Diego. He received his B.A.s in Political Science, Economics, Sociology, and Anthropology from Tel Aviv University, his M.A. from UCLA, and his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley. He is the recipient of grants from the Ford Foundation, the Israeli Academy of Sciences, the Pew Foundation, the Social Science Research Council, and the American Council of Learned Societies. He served on the National Advisory Council of the Anne Frank Center, the Fulbright Commission, the Social Science Research Council’s Near and Middle East Research and Training Fellowship Committee, and served as the President of the Israel Studies Association from 2001 to 2003. 

Time and place: The talk will be held in Frokoststuen (4.2.26), Building 4, Department of Political Science, Øster Farimagsgade 5a, 1353 Copenhagen K, April 23rd, 2015 from 15.00 to 17.00.

The talk is organized in cooperation between Centre for Resolution of International Conflicts and Secular Ideology in the Middle East, Roskilde University.
