Call for abstracts: Transformation of human experience

Together with our partners the Peace Research Institute in Oslo (PRIO) and Peace & Conflict Studies at Lund University, Sweden, CRIC is organising a three-part exploratory workshop series “Virtual Zones of Peace and Conflict” which is intended to foster and enhance collaboration among international peace scholars located in Sweden, Denmark and Norway. This project is supported by the Norwegian Research Council.

Our first workshop will focus on the human experience of conflict. The tranforming frontier zones where experiences of war and violence take place form the basis of this workshop to explore various emerging questions relevant to our respective fields of research: What role does digitisation play in conveying experiences of war to those who are not in the frontier zones? How has new media and interconnectivity changed global warfare and peacebuilding? How have digitally recorded and globally communicated human experiences of war changed perceptions on how to solve conflicts?

The first workshop in this series, will be organised on 12 and 13 January 2015 at the Centre for Resolution of International Conflicts (CRIC), the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The first day will focus on digitization and distance in contemporary warfare. In the afternoon we will have a public panel session on Drone warfare and a special filmscreening. The second day of the workshop will explore digital coverage and new media formats of communicating human experiences of war.

Deadline for submission of paper abstracts is 15 November 2014, we will need a short title and an abstract of approximately 250-300 words. Please send your abstract to abst@cric.ku.dk.
