Crisis and Conflict across the Greater Horn of Africa

Workshop at the University of Copenhagen 4-5 November, 2015

Copenhagen, Denmark

The Greater Horn of Africa—including Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda—is a region of strategic importance to the world. It is also a region in crisis. This workshop is intended to examine these recent crises and conflicts, trying to understand them and how they interrelate in a regional system.

The purpose of this call for papers is to invite a number of potential authors to a workshop destined to culminate in the publication of an anthology on contemporary conflicts facing the Horn. Topics include, but are not limited to:

Multi-Dimensionality of Conflicts in the Region

Climate, the Environment, Conservation and Conflict

 Religion and Conflict

 Terrorism

 Piracy

 State Building

 Regional and Subregional Organizations

The authors of several selected abstracts will be invited to present papers at a two-day workshop that will take place in the 4-5 November 2015. This workshop is sponsored by the Centre for Resolution of International Conflicts and is organized by Bjørn Møller (Aalborg University Copenhagen) and Nikolas Emmanuel (University of Copenhagen).

Please direct any queries and send proposed abstracts (200 words maximum) to Nikolas Emmanuel (ne@cric.ku.dk) no later than 1 August 2015. Successful applications will be notified by 21 August 2015.
