Second workshop on Virtual Zones of Peace and Conflict at PRIO brings together innovative peace scholars to Oslo

On Wednesday 19th and Thursday the 20th of August, international scholars, graduate students from a variety of backgrounds arrived at headquarters PRIO to attend the second exploratory workshop on Virtual Zones of Peace and Conflict. This three –part exploratory workshop series is a project by the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), the Centre for Resolution of International Conflict (CRIC) at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark and the Peace & Conflict Studies group at Lund University, Sweden. The series is supported by the Nordic Research Councils for the Humanities and the Social Sciences and include a special focus on the Middle East/Syria. The primary aim is to formulate new understandings, questions and methods of research that take into account the changing nature of global warfare, digital innovations, global connectivity and the effect of these developments on human psychology and emotions.

The intense 2-days Virtual Zones of Peace & Conflict workshop proved to be a productive platform to raise new innovative and relevant themes within peace & conflict studies to tackle todays challenges and urgent emerging issues within the field. The scholarly exchanges were inspiring and participants actively raised poignant research questions for the development of future research leading to a strategic research agenda. Our third workshop will be organized in 2016, at Lund University and will focus on digital memory and processes of memorialization in peace & conflict.
