International Affairs Webinar: Virtual diplomacy during COVID-19

On May 28th in a seminar arranged by Chatham House, Isabel Bramsen and Anine Hagemann will present thier research on the the virtualization of diplomacy along with Corneliu Bjola of Oxford University and Ilan Manor of Tel Aviv University.

COVID-19 has caused all manner of professions to adapt to virtual or remote practices. Diplomacy is no different – but does the lack of face-to-face interaction limit the effectiveness of diplomatic engagement? In this webinar, scholars and practitioners will reflect on how the pandemic has altered traditional summitry. The panel will draw on new research into the virtualization of diplomacy during the Syrian and Yemeni peace processes, as well as on the findings of a new study discussing competing configurations of hybrid diplomacy (physical and virtual) to emerge in the aftermath of COVID-19 lockdowns.
