Call for contributions to research seminar

From February 29th to March 2nd 2016 Professor Rebecca L. Stein will visit Centre for Resolution of International Conflicts (University of Copenhagen) to give a public lecture Wednesday 2nd of March. In addition,CRIC invites researchers, journalists and NGO-workers interested in reflecting critically on the connections between digital life, conflict escalation, and violence to a one day seminar 1st of March.

People are invited to submit a contribution proposal which could consist of: a traditional paper presentation; an idea for a more open-ended brainstorming session on a given topic; a suggestion for a collective screening, whether a fully-fledged film or user-generated material (e.g. YouTube clips), raising important theoretical issues that the proponent would like to discuss.

Topics of interest are (but are not limited to): the relationship between violence and the digitization of every-day life; the role of media and social media in contemporary conflicts and in the performance of violence; the politics of digital media; the aesthetics and the politics of techo-violence; the role of images in conflict escalation (and in conflict resolution); digital radicalization and the role of tech in contemporary extremist groups.

Please send your proposal in a word document format (max 1000 words), including weblinks to video material (if any); please specify how you would like to develop your idea, whether in a formal paper presentation, or through a video screening, etc.
